Henri Sorensen: Sandblasted Tomato with Osage Orange Tobacco Pipe

Originally a glazier by trade, Henri Sørensen came to the craft of pipe making, like many artisans, as a hobbyist with a passion for smoking. Drawn in by the artistry of the craft, he soon began fashioning pieces of his own. Over time, he has grown into one of Denmark's premier artisans, celebrated for his elegant interpretations of traditional Danish shapes — each brought to life with tasteful accents and vibrant finishes.

A fine example of Sørensen's aesthetic, this Tomato features a broad, squat bowl with a touch more height than is typical for the shape, lending a rounded fullness to the bowl's silhouette. A lifted heel adds to the bowl's posture, pushing the fore wall outward in a dynamic stance and initiating a flowing undercurve. This curve sweeps through the transition and into the shank-and-stem arrangement, which lifts high at the rear to promote a comfortable smoking posture while lending balance to the overall form.

The pipe is dressed in a crisp sandblast, its inky finish contrasting beautifully with a warm accent of Osage orange and a smoothly polished rim — an artful interplay of texture, color, and form.
