Jacono: Bishop Rhodesian (E)
Product Number: 002-616-1009
A chubby and quaint rendition of the Rhodesian from Tonino Jacono, This example of the classic shape features a tapered stem that gently dips into a bulbous shank. The shank is charming and plump, the face chamfered, accommodating the stem in a way that gives the illusion of its being enveloped by the shank. The transition is stout and softly curved, only needing a small bit of space to form a bowl wide enough to overlook the shank, and flows into a long, languid heel that follows its curve to a single ridgeline on the bowl. This ridgeline demands attention, not only as a facet of design, but as a demarcation of partial rustication, wherein the entire rim is a rusticated surface, bereft of finish and left natural, matte, and ready to patinate with use, contrasting the natural smooth finish under the ridgeline which reveals dense flame grain around the stummel and birdseye on the heel. Truly this is a unique and delightful piece that begs to be held, smoked, and treasured.-John McElheny
