Jacono: Rook Bent Dublin Churchwarden

Product Number: 002-616-1018

The Churchwarden is, usually, a more diminutive pipe, a shape defined by its long stem's dramatic curve, terminating in a small stummel. This rendition by Jacono places all of the visual weight at the stummel, inverting the standard profile in a way, not just by virtue of its size, but because of the shape itself, looking to be a blending of Dublin and Pickaxe. The shape is handsome, stem meeting shank at a recessed face that seats the stem inside the stummel, and the shank begins an enticing line to the angular heel, its sharpness a focal point of the profile. The bowl resembles that of a standard Dublin, with a flare toward the rim, but the heel gives it the semblance of a downward pointing spear, which, combined with the extended stem, imbues the pipe with a clear momentum, accelerating from button to plateaued rim, seemingly bouncing on the heel before expanding upward.
