Jacono: Pawn Bent Dublin (EE) (Checkmate Checkmate)
Product Number: 002-616-1042
Massive bent Dublin with sandblasted ring grain, anyone? Tonino Jacono clearly couldn't get enough of the fine grain he found in this block and just made a massive pipe with it. The shape is a very Horn-like bent Dublin, a continuous supple curve from the flaring, plateau-bedecked rim to the neatly tapering stem. When viewed from above, we see that the bowl is elongated, stretching the flanks to better show off the incredibly tight stacks of ring grain that climb the stummel. A two-tone sandblast makes the grain unmissable and makes for a delightful presence in hand, or perhaps I should say two hands, given the nearly eight inches of length here. This is over a quarter pound of briar, folks, and has easily earned Tonino's double-Checkmate appellation. I hate to see this one go, and am sure you will be happy to see it arrive. In any case, you should be able to see it coming from a good ways off.- Joel Balyeat
