Jacono: Jack Freehand (Checkmate) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-616-1169

This Freehand from Tonino Jacono has been assigned Checkmate status, indicating a large briar, an appropriate assignation for this Jack rendition. Despite its more than palm-filling size, this organic piece remains easily manageable. The massive bowl displays a strong forward cant, its lifting heel and plateau-crowned rim and shank face hinting at a Danish influence. Housing a quite expansive chamber depth, it's primed for lengthy, languid smoking sessions. There's plenty of room at the elongated transition to drape a digit or two, with the gently upturned shank flaring dramatically at its end. It's all topped by a jet-black stem. Asymmetrical and whimsical, it's wearing a walnut contrast stain, highlighting tight-knit tendrils of flame grain on all flanks, while some handsome birdseye can be seen saturating the heel. A fetching and flourishing pipe, this is another great show of talent from the Italian carver.
