This style of dual finish defines Tonino Jacono's Bishop pipes, pairing a dark-stained sandblast with a comparatively lighter contrast stain. While the mix of smooth and sandblasted textures does make for an intriguing feel in hand, the contrast actually accomplishes so much more for the composition than mere tactile intrigue: It accentuates and emphasizes Tonino's strong Italian neoclassic approach to shaping — the darker rustication underneath the bowl shifting even more visual weight to the stout, stocky bowl itself due to the contrasting color, as well as the gorgeous flame grain engulfing it beneath a smooth finish.
