Jacono: 40th Anniversary Knight Author (A45/50) (E) Tobacco Pipe

The Author is a shape which Tonino Jacono is quite skilled at rendering, his experienced hands knowing just the right curves with which to imbue the pipe with its charming plumpness and subtle bend. It's appropriate that he's chosen it as one of two shapes offered in celebration of his 40th anniversary as a pipe maker alongside a distinctive Volcano rendition. Compact in length, this chubby rendition of the classic Author is quite portable and handy, though with a bowl on offer which rivals other comfort pipes of larger dispositions. The aforementioned subtle curvature sees the stem make a slight downturn following the gently angled shank from which it ebbs, making a consistent undercurve with the stummel as the supple heel sweeps upward. The bowl is supple, plump, and possessed of a mid-set waistline that makes indexing it in hand a dream and emphasizes the form's softness as it takes on an easy taper to the rim. The briar has been dressed in Jacono's craggy Knight rustication, with the nomenclature panel and a trim band at the shank end left smooth, the stummel's virgin finish showcasing the briar's natural color palette which will darken handsomely as this pipe is smoked.
