Jacono: Bishop Oom Paul Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-616-1543
Tonino Jacono, along with his father-in-law and brother-in-law, created the Jacono company in 1981. While each member had their own roles, they were all united by the common goal of creating high-quality pipes at a fair price. With its sure-sitting heel and comfortable smoking posture, this Oom Paul from Jacono makes for a utilitarian piece. The bowl stands with a subtle forward cant atop a flattened heel, with thick, straight walls rising high toward the rim. A vertically-inclined shank makes a broad transition from the bowl, topped with a smartly bent saddle stem for reliable jaw hanging. Jacono pipes are graded according to a chess-themed naming convention, with this "Bishop" piece wearing a striking dual finish: the heel is dressed in a craggy rustication that provides a stimulating texture in the palm, and the rest of the piece wears a smooth, auburn stain that showcases handsome grain.
