Jacono: Rook Volcano Tobacco Pipe

Jacono's takes on the Volcano shape are often varied, with many of their interpretations showcasing dynamic curvature through the shank and stem combination. This particular imagining is unique for the opposite reason, featuring a streamlined combination through the aft side, where the shank is extended and the stem is a short saddle of black acrylic: making this piece instantly reminiscent of the Lovat. Up front, the bowl stands on a striking heel, where the Volcano shape's iconic ridge-wrapped base lifts slightly at the fore, lending the heel a flicking, dynamic look that draws the eye to the fore. From the broad base, the bowl's walls make a swift taper and a slight forward cant as they rise to the rim, leaving plenty of space to showcase the stummel's warm, light stain, courtesy of the Rook finish.

In 1981, Tonino Jacono's father-in-law extended an offer to start a new pipe-making workshop, his father-in-law providing high-quality briar from his job at a briar-cutting mill, his brother shaping the pipes, and Tonino himself doing the finishing. The idea was developed further, and, two years later, the first Jacono pipes were made in 1983 from out of the family's small workshop in Jesi, Italy. Tonino's start at this new venture was guided by a simple principle: offer pipes of the highest possible quality at the best possible price. Tonino now heads the company and has taken on carving responsibilities himself, staying true to his original goal, though benefiting from more than three decades of pipe-making experience and a reputation for excellence.
