Jacono: Rook Bent Dublin Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-616-1587
A handsome, Acorn-like take on the bent Dublin, this piece from Italian workshop Jacono is a good example of the marque's Neoclassical shaping style, with a bowl-forward construction and a more lithe shank and stem. Said shank and stem arc out of a rather wide transition, the shank making a very subtle taper to its end, with this taper continuing through the base of a sleek saddle stem made from coffee-toned acrylic. Up front, the bowl stands on a pronounced heel complete with a rounded spur, taking on a slight taper to the rim, complete with a jaunty forward cant to offer the composition a dynamic look. Dressed in a warm, rich stain, courtesy of the Rook finish, the stummel showcases handsome grain throughout, with flickering flame grain wrapping around the bowl and birdseye across the rim.
In 1981, Tonino Jacono's father-in-law extended an offer to start a new pipe-making workshop, his father-in-law providing high-quality briar from his job at a briar-cutting mill, his brother shaping the pipes, and Tonino himself doing the finishing. The idea was developed further, and, two years later, the first Jacono pipes were made in 1983 from out of the family's small workshop in Jesi, Italy. Tonino's start at this new venture was guided by a simple principle: offer pipes of the highest possible quality at the best possible price. Tonino now heads the company and has taken on carving responsibilities himself, staying true to his original goal, though benefiting from more than three decades of pipe-making experience and a reputation for excellence.
