Jacono: Rook Bulldog Tobacco Pipe

In 1981, Tonino Jacono, his father-in-law, and his brother-in-law banded together to form the Jacono brand with the intent of making high quality pipes at the best possible price. This Bulldog from Jacono trades the classic shape's signature beadlines for a shallow ridgeline that encircles the girthy waist, therewith marking the shift from the lower bowl's plump curvature to a wide taper that leads to the thin rim. The waist also delineates the change from birdseye along the upper, inward sloping wall to flame grain curving around the bottom half of the bowl. Emerging from the tight transition straight and with graceful lines, the diamond shank goes on to join to an acrylic saddle stem. The bottom edge of the shank, as it flows toward the pipe's fore, branches into two lines to meld into a softly rounded heel. The pipe, based on a chess-themed grading system, is designated as "Rook," its stummel wearing a smooth, light-stained finish.
