Jerry Zenn: Smooth Tomato Sitter with Bamboo
Product Number: 002-788-0013
Jerry Zenn's Danish and Japanese influences are prominently on display with this piece. The plump, organic bowl rounding in ball-like proportions at the top but tapering at the heel to a flat base for sitting. The shank, as you can see, is fitted with a remarkable piece of bamboo, expanding its four knuckles to the cumberland mouthpiece in an Ivarsson-esque aesthetic. With impressive vertical presence, the curves are natural and flowing, and though the shape is not well suited to displaying consistent grain, he's made it work, and this piece manages to provide plenty. And, possibly just to show off, Jerry has fitted this organic shape with a secure foot at the base for standing on its own. Multi-colored and textured, in a design that is far from the usual, this is a pipe for endless visual and tactile interest.- Chuck Stanion
