Jerry Zenn: Sandblasted Tomato Sitter with Horn Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-788-0018
It's in his rounder, plumper pieces that I think Jerry Zenn's Danish and Japanese influences really shine. The combination of muscular bowls and elegant, light shanks and stems makes for pieces that are as impressive as they are well-balanced, not lacking in intriguing details or comfort. This Tomato sitter is a beautiful example, its sandblasted finish bringing out tidy stacks of growth rings from base to rim, while the long, flaring accent of natural horn offers a dark and smoky touch to the palette. The implied momentum of the piece is where the influence shines, however, the slight forward-ebbing motion of the bowl's fore, the upward kick of the shank, and the easy line of the saddle stem giving the impression of a piece that is bundled with kinetic charge, ready to take flight at a moment's notice. Beautiful work.
