Ichi Kitahara: Sandblasted Acorn with Bamboo
Product Number: 002-340-0104
While far from omnipresent in his work, Ichi Kitahara's art is, arguably, the most aquatically inspired of any carver out there, with the zenith of his aesthetic being "The Wave". This sandblasted Acorn is special in a couple of interesting ways: it is only the second totally sandblasted briar that we have received from the artist, and the 1.72" x 1.28" bowl is quite possibly the most petite platform to incorporate aspects of the Wave. The bamboo is well done; the interval between the two knuckles is exactly duplicated in the space between the aft ridge of the same and the ridge of the mount, and the interplay of the peak/trough of the rim and the pointed heel is both playful and fascinating.
