Konstantin Shekita: Partially Sandblasted Lattice Bent Apple Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-600-0028

When it comes to the shaping of this bent Apple from Konstantin Shekita, it's a plump, tight-knit number, the upward sweep of the shank serving to cradle the bowl thanks to some dramatic curves. The real star here, however, is his lattice finish — one which requires exacting care to perfect. Rather than simply carving a lattice pattern into the briar, the briar itself has been carved into a lattice, with a layer of briar carefully removed, resulting in tiny arches and pathways beneath the surface. It's delicate work, extremely labor-intensive, and requires not only incredible skill, but steady hands. There's no margin for error with this type of finish, and Konstantin's ability to produce it is seriously impressive. It's here been combined with an ultra-light sandblast, offering just a touch more texture, as well as additional contrast against the sleek, smooth plane of the shank's flanks. Photos simply don't do this piece justice.
