Konstantin Shekita: Lattice Carved Tomato Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-600-0038

Konstantin Shekita has an eye for not just shaping, but finishing, and a supreme amount of patience for both. This Tomato is one of those pieces that shows this off in supreme detail, leaving even me impressed. Its abbreviated length and saddle stem throw all of the visual weight of the piece forward, matched by the actual weight at the fore of the piece — that is to say that the bowl is well-rounded and plump of waistline, with a subtle transition and broad, slightly-tapering shank that feels quite cohesive.

It's all finished in one of his incredible latticework finishes, which are of particular note due to the time and attention that is required to execute them. His latticework involves under-cutting to create delicate bridges of briar on the surface, a process that requires no wavering in the use of its custom, precision tools, or in his focus on the job. The tiniest mistake would mean the entire pipe was a loss — but his perfect execution here means that it is a magnificent piece of work.
