Konstantin Shekita: Partially Sandblasted Magnum Bent Apple with Rosewood Tobacco Pipe

A Magnum bent Apple of robust, muscular shaping, this Danish-styled piece from Konstantin Shekita embodies the hearty designs for which the Ukrainian carver is known. The tall, plump bowl is softly rounded, with a broad, low-mass base gradually tapering to the rim, resulting in a voluptuous feel in hand. Housing more than two inches of chamber depth within its thick walls, it's paired to an extremely high-set transition that accentuates the bowl's height and breadth and informs cheeking along both flanks. A smooth panel along the bottom allows this piece to sit sturdily, the framing, softened ridgelines also speaking to Danish shaping cues. The tall shank curls away from the bowl, flaring at the end in a slightly asymmetrical, triangular rosewood accent, the hues matching those of the smooth rim and underside panel. The stummel is dressed in a ruddy, contrast-stained sandblast, showcasing gorgeous growth rings beneath, with the underlying panel saturated with handsome birdseye.
