Lomma: Smooth Bent Dublin
Product Number: 002-596-0144
Shape-wise, this bent Dublin from Lars Jonsson is fairly traditional. The bowl flares generously from out of a deeply curved transition, followed by a flaring oval shank out back to provided some balance. It all makes for an incredibly natural feel in hand, imbued with the soft, flowing lines that are so well-executed by the Swedish carver. The grain, though, is what's really captured my attention on this piece. Not only is it beautifully vivid thanks to the warm contrast stain, but it's also rather uniquely oriented, as the tongues of flame grain shoot more backward toward the stem from out of the birdseye at the bowl's fore instead of directly vertical toward the rim. The rim, then, is comprised of a dizzying array of birdseye, as concise whorls cover the surface, chamfered just at the chamber opening. Gorgeous work here from Lars.-Truett Smith
