Lv Zelong: Sandblasted Long Shank Acorn with Boxwood Tobacco Pipe

Chinese pipe artisan Lv Zelong studied under Ping Zhan and Lan Zhenjun, where he learned to craft both well-engineered and highly functional pieces. His portfolio ranges from Chinese to Danish inspired pipes, often organically shaped and accented with eccentric materials, as seen in this Acorn. Sweeping from button to bowl, the visual momentum of this pipe is drawn to the fore where the bowl rises from a lifted heel. The walls of the bowl are supple as they balloon toward the chamfered rim that looks into a compact tobacco chamber, ideal for short and satisfying smoking sessions. The transition lends ample room to wrap the thumb as it gives way to a rounded, flaring shank accented with boxwood at its base. A petite saddle stem protrudes from the accent, completing the silhouette of the pipe. Save for the smooth rim, the stummel is finished in an inky sandblast, highlighting handsome growth rings and providing texture for the fingers to explore.
