Martelo: Sandblasted Saucer with Fordite
Product Number: 002-694-0029
We've seen some excellent Rhodesian-family shapes from Gustavo Cunha of Martelo pipes, though I've mentioned before that it's not quite as many as we would've liked. This low-slung and squat Saucer rendition should make it quite clear why. With its streamlined sense of implied forward motion, gentle forward cant to the bowl and languid trail of lenticular shank and stem, it's an elegant rendition to be sure, coupled with perhaps a touch of playfulness. Said playfulness manifests itself in not only the compressed sense of shaping, but the vibrant fordite accentwork at the shank's end. I should also note that it's one of the more interesting cuts of fordite I've personally seen, with a unique, swirled pattern and metallic sheen. A very cool piece here.
