marTelo: Sandblasted Bing's Billiard with Fordite Tobacco Pipe

A thoroughly "Martelo" take on the venerable Bing's Billiard shape, this pencil-shanked number is quite simply perfect. From shape to finish, Gustavo has knocked it out of the park. Featuring one of the Brazilian carver's pencil shanks, reinforced by a steel-lined tenon, the upright, slightly tapered bowl is given some added perceived height thanks to the negative space lent by the slender shank. Regarding the finish, this sandblast is everything anyone could ever want. Deeply grooved, concentric ripples of ring grain stack upon one another all the way from heel to rim, making for a texture that's just as delightful to the eye as it is in the hand. The orientation of the ring grain also, once again, contributes to the bowl's height, making it the focal point of the piece. Wearing a dark, glossy stain, apart from the inner most portion of the rim and a matching ring at the shank-end which have been left smooth and stained a warm walnut hue, this classy piece is accented by a bright band of fordite, showing off a number of vivid rainbow hues atop a creamy white backdrop.
