marTelo: Sandblasted Bent Pot with Horn Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-694-0068

This cheeky little bent Pot from Martelo approaches Nosewarmer length, and adds in a sinuous S-curve to offer some excellent jaw-hanging potential. Gustavo Cunha is the Brazilian artisan behind Martelo pipes, a devoted woodworker who began making his own bows and arrows from scratch when he was 15, later attending university to study furniture design. When he became interested in making pipes, he traveled to Danish icon Tom Eltang's workshop, became inspired to master the craft, and a year later outfitted his own shop for that very purpose.

For this bent Pot, Gustavo applied an ultra-craggy sandblast and dark stain, bringing the grain to life in an incredibly organic, but also stunningly elegant display of growth rings climbing the bowl. The rim continues the rough texture of the blast, and the dark coloration of a horn ferrule at the shank end upholds the color scheme, while a lithe tapered vulcanite stem bends down to promote a comfortable smoking posture. The muscular shaping style and rugged sandblast are evocative of old English pipes like Comoy's and BBB, rendered here with precise craftsmanship sure to please.
