marTelo: Sandblasted Bent Pot Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-694-0073
Based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Gustavo Cunha, who handcrafts pipes under the MarTelo name, is a talented pipe carver who focuses on traditional shapes with the occasional nod to his Danish mentors, Tom Eltang among them. This bent Pot manages to make the often bulky shape into something that approaches sleekness, quite the achievement for any pipe carver. The pert bowl rests on a strong heel at the fore of a sinuous round shank, tapering as it approaches the stem in a fluid S curve that calls to mind Cunha's iconic renditions of Dunhill's "LC" bent Billiard shape — only here with a stout Pot bowl. Said stem is rendered in grey and charcoal hues in a handsome brindled pattern. The stummel is dressed in a warm honey-blonde sandblast, revealing impeccable bands of ring grain that encircle the bowl, offering a wealth of tactile and visual appeal.
