marTelo: Smooth Jequitibá with Bamboo and Jupatí Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-694-0083

Gustavo Cunha, the Brazilian artisan behind marTelo pipes, leverages a background in woodworking and furniture design to fashion a wide range of shapes, from traditional Anglo-French classics to more organic, nature-inspired designs. The Jequitibá is one of Cunha's signature shapes and a playful variation on his Jatobá design. Both shapes draw inspiration from the fruit borne from the jatobazeiro tree, which informs the bowl's unique curvature and slightly angular profile.

This particular Jequitibá possesses a tall, Stack-like bowl with tapered flanks that terminate at a pointed, rearward-orientated heel. The entire fore of the bowl sweeps downward and informs the aforementioned heel, and creates a crescent-shaped outline in the process. A slightly angled transition follows the bowl and marks the start of a trim shank extended by three knuckles of bamboo. A node of jupatí punctuates the bamboo extension and artfully bridges the dense grass' warm complexion to the stem's inky hue. A warm, glossy smooth finish completes the ensemble and highlights gorgeous cross grain across the bowl's flanks.
