Michail Kyriazanos: Rusticated Billiard with Army Mount
Product Number: 002-629-0031
We don't know if it's an astrological thing, or perhaps something in the water, but over the past few years Greece just suddenly produced several young artisans with a hell of a knack, and a lot of interest, in English classics. This was particularly odd given that Greece, unlike say Italy, England, or Denmark, didn't exactly have an abundance of pipemakers for them to crop out of.
Anyway, Michail Kyriazonos is one of those aforementioned younger artisans, and here is one of his pipes. Hell of a knack, like I said: light, elegant, lean and simple — this is a shape Dunhill, Barling, or any other storied English marque would have been proud of. Neat thing about old-fashioned English classics made outside of England, and in the present, though: you can find them in finishes the old British marques never dabbled in, like this crisp and tightly craggy rustication, sort of like a finer-grit take on the Castello Sea Rock.
