Michail Kyriazanos: Smooth Bent Apple
Product Number: 002-629-0089
Quite a smooth take on the bent Apple shape, this piece from Michail Kyriazanos features a plump, slightly squat bowl with a lifting, Danish style heel and a transition that at once seems to be both low-slung and slightly sweeping in gesture. Said gesture helps guide the eye across the slight flare and rising lines of the shank to the domed shank end. While it doesn't feature any flashy accents or adornments, Michail did do some interesting things with the turned stem base, orienting it diagonally to match the plane of that shank face — which, in turn, emphasizes the piece's striking implied forward momentum. It's finished in a slightly warm amber contrast stain, highlighting some impressive flame grain all around.
