Michail Kyriazanos: Smooth Dublin with Bamboo

Product Number: 002-629-0108

It's the textures, I think, that make this pipe seem more complex than the shape would herald. Three knuckles of bamboo make up the shank, and the nodes are sharp and more three-dimensional than on most bamboo-shanked pipes. The saddle stem, which naturally tends to throw the visual weight of a pipe forward, expands slightly before stepping down, echoing the upward taper of the Dublin bowl. Consistent vertical grain graces the bowl on all sides, as the taper follows the natural angle of the grain. The rim rides high on the pipe, with a steep domed aspect and textured with the natural undulations of plateau. The heel has a sharp, forward point that centers the grain and leaves a small, flattened surface to show off some birdseye. This is an impressive piece, comfortable, beautiful, and practical.
