Michail Kyriazanos: Smooth Billiard with Silver

Product Number: 002-629-0122

A sibling of sorts to a previous Billiard we received from Michail Kyriazanos, this piece fits firmly within the Greek carver's penchant for artisan renditions of classic English shapes. He's stayed true to the iconic, military-mounted form, though having lent the bowl a touch more forward cant than would be seen on an early 1900s iteration. Michail has also prioritized the briar's natural grain here — whereas as early English factories didn't regard the grain, Kyriazanos has shaped the bowl to showcase vibrant streaks of vertical grain, brought out by a deep, red/orange contrast stain. While the finish and attention to grain are more modern, artisan conventions, the shape remains a veritable classic, easily fitting into an old catalog, with the sterling silver mount both adding a regal sense of formality as well as allowing the stem to be removed even while the pipe is still hot.
