Michail Kyriazanos: Smooth Cutty with Silver
Product Number: 002-629-0130
It's no secret that Michail Kyriazanos is a lover of classic Anglo-French shapes and whenever the Greek carver produces an homage to shape chart standards, the results are always spectacular. This Cutty rendition is certainly no exception and is highly reminiscent of a Dublin we previously received. Unlike the aforementioned example that was firmly rooted in Dublin territory, this offering is a pure Cutty in its execution and rendered in compact proportions, measuring just under five inches in overall length. The Cutty shape hearkens back to the style of clay pipes that were common in taverns hundreds of years ago, long before briar was discovered as a viable medium for pipe making.
Here, Kyriazanos retains the form's signature elements such as the forward canted bowl and heel spur underneath the transition, executing both expertly and in a reserved manner that suits such a timeless design. Michail has also shaped this piece to fully maximize its grain potential, with specks of birdseye gracing the bowl's flanks, neatly separated by lanes of cross grain fore and aft. A sterling silver army mount adorns the shank end, further accentuating the classic appeal of this piece and enabling it to be broken down at any time for a quick cleaning or easier storage.- Jeffery Sitts
