Michail Kyriazanos: Sandblasted Acorn with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe

This style of Acorn immediately calls to mind Martelo's signature Jatoba in silhouette and is one of the more overtly organic inspired designs we've seen from Michail Kyriazanos. From form to finish, this example is also quite a drastic departure from previous Acorns we've received from the Greek carver. The towering bowl maintains the form's signature heel spur and gradually flares up toward the slightly wavy, beveled rim. Michail has finished it in a light, yet crisp sandblast that has brought out a fascinating array of ring grain that cascades down the entire bowl and is undeniably texturally intriguing. The stummel's stain initially appears to be black but upon closer inspection and underneath stronger lights, it reveals itself to actually be a murky forest green tone, complementing the organic stylings of the overall composition. The transition here sits neatly tucked underneath the bowl's slightly protruding waistline before giving way to a dramatically bent bamboo shank extension. The dark tan hues of the organic medium pair beautifully with the stummel's color palette and the jet-black mouthpiece, the base of which expertly continues the rhythmic spacing of the bamboo. It's a stunning piece of craftsmanship from Kyriazanos and truly demonstrates his versatility with accenting materials and finishes.
