Missouri Meerschaum: Country Gentleman Straight (6mm) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-543-0019

One of the most popular designs in Missouri Meerschaum's line of more sizable, filter-compatible corncobs, the Country Gentleman features an extra-large, barrel-shaped bowl, finished in a dark stain for an aged look. Available in both straight and bent configurations, it's an affordable, accessible means of enjoying your favorite blends or trying something new.

Note: While all of our other pipes are photographed individually, these are not, and you may expect some reasonable cosmetic variation between the example we've photographed and the pipe you've received.

Poor quality and stinking
December 14, 2024
Product: Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman Straight (6mm)
Yes, it stinks after many smokes - the varnish they use is hard to smoke out. I gave up with mine and threw it to trash bin.
The engineering quality is poor as with most other cobs: chamber, shank and stem issues, air leakage, and more. While it's okay for cheap cobs, it's not okay for the more e

I have a few cobs, and lets be honest they all have some variation. The Country Gentleman I recieved from smokingpipes is great. Fits my hand like a glove and is a joy to smoke.
My Favorite Cob

Product: Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman Straight (6mm)
I have tried most of the popular cob styles, and this is my favorite. Great size and appearance. Not much I can really add. I’ve tried some of the ones with fancy stems, but they just aren’t worth the extra cost. By that point, you’re getting closer to something like a Rossi which is a way better value (a Rossi might be about double the price of a fancy-stemmed cob but you’re getting more than twice the value). I’ve been smoking this model since BEFORE it had a hardwood plug in the bottom like it does now. Personal tip for all cobs - don’t trim the shank. If you do a little reading around the web, you’ll find people telling you to trim or ream away the shrank protruding into the bowl. This is unnecessary. What I do is to smoke all the way down (easier in a cob than briar since cobs are so absorbent). Smoke until you can taste the wood shank and maybe take a few more puffs to be sure, then put the pipe down, undisturbed for a few minutes. Stir up the ash and tap the sides of the bowl (in the normal smoking orientation) to let some ash settle into the nooks and crannies, then dump. Keep doing this with each smoke and after several bowls you’ll have a perfect heel. The ash and subsequent moisture, heat, and tar will do a much better job than hacking away at it. It’s less work too....Read More

Probably my favorite MM. Smokes delicious, and the price is perfect. They look great with a forever stem.

Inexpensive = Cheap

Product: Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman Straight (6mm)
My shank cracked in two places after only a handful of uses. I bought it direct from MM, so no question of inauthenticity or “fake”. I was smoking mostly aromatics in the pipe but, even so, I wasn’t smoking hot. There should be no reason for the shank to crack, but it did, in two places along the shank. Both cracks are proximal to the bowl (closer to the bowl than the bit), and one of them looks catastrophic - it goes all the way through to the bore and is more than half the length of the shank. I will be trying a resin woodfiller for repair, but am not entirely hopeful of being able to save the pipe. Okay, yes, these are inexpensive items that we are not supposed to have to worry too much about, but when they break down right away and we have to buy more then they become expensive and the only selling point is lost. When cobs turn expensive and become cost sinks, they become pointless. What’s more is that *nobody* wants a new cob every time. Breaking in a new cob is pain. It tastes bad. It takes up a lot of time. It wastes what would otherwise have been very flavorful tobacco. You keep smoking a bad-tasting pipe because you know that eventually it will taste good once it’s broken in, but when it breaks before it’s really even broken in and you have to start over, it’s wasted time and taste and tobacco and money. I’m just not sure Missouri Meerschaum is for me. Yes, they are the go-to corncob brand, but if their pipes are just going to break every time then it’s not worth it, even if they are inexpensive. Save your pennies and buy a real pipe....Read More
Good Pipe, but Stinks
May 01, 2021
Product: Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman Straight (6mm)
I like this pipe, smokes well and the bowl is attractively finished. The only problem is that the finish - some king of plastic resin, perhaps - produces a chemical odor when it warms up, one which intermittently intrudes into the flavor of the tobacco. Aromatic smokers may not notice this, but it is very obvious when smoking non-aromatics. The good news is that the effect fades out and goes away after maybe 10 or 12 smokes....Read More
Worth It

Product: Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman Straight (6mm)
Has a bit of an odd taste three smokes in, but absolutely worth $10 for an extra pipe while others are drying out. Five stars for value.
Another order, another cob

Nice to hold, better to smoke. One of the better cob designs available.
King of Cobs

Product: Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman Straight (6mm)
This is the king of cobs. Cobs are easier to smoke than briars, mostly because they are more tolerant of moisture. The other benefit of cobs is that you don't mind dinging them up. I always take this guy with me to the woods because it doesn't matter if it gets dinged up in the ruck sack....Read More
