Nate King: Smooth Bent Apple (310)
Product Number: 002-579-0064
Though the nature of Nate King's aesthetic may be a tough one to fit into any specific category, given the Indianapolis carver's history working with aircraft and automobiles, it makes sense that his designs are often imbued with a powerful implied forward-motion and dynamism. That aforementioned implied motion surely isn't lost on this piece, nor is a noticeable Danish influence, lent to it by the Ivarsson-esque teardrop line initiated by the shank. It follows the curvature at the underside of the bowl, and instead of melding with the form of the bowl, it cradles it, terminating at the softly convex, birdseye-kissed rim. Another organic detail is found at the underside, in the form of a subtle touch of natural plateau.
