Nording: Carved Brandy (302)
Product Number: 002-508-1327
To my eye, Eric Nording seems to be highly stylizing his organic flourishes into something which seems to mimic the tribal African art typically found in masks and statuettes--that is, a emphasis towards abstraction, or to capture the inner essence of the organic object he's trying to convey (for which they believe the outward exterior of a thing is merely a shell, a superficial manifestation of the material world). This dichotomy ties into their aesthetic philosophy of binary diversion that balances construction and destruction, organized culture and unmediated nature, shifting between these two poles. If he is drawing inspiration from African culture, he would be one of the first pipe makers to do so.
