Rattray's: The Fair Maid Sandblasted (168) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-599-5179
Rattray's is known their firm, muscular renditions of classic shapes, the Scottish marque's penchant for stout proportions well represented in their portfolio. This "168" Dublin, however, is quite the opposite, with a sleek, svelte length of shank and stem that lie low on the bowl and balance the visual weight nicely thanks to their extended reach. A wide transition leaves plenty of room to drape a thumb and pairs the shank and stem to a dynamically forward-canting bowl with a demure flare to its chamfered rim.
The Fair Maid series from Rattray's poses a sleek and streamlined aesthetic, befitting its name. Composed of svelte renditions of shape-chart standards, the line unifies pipes with slender proportions and gentle lines to offer a selection of lightweight pipes of fair, elegant design. Offered in smooth or sandblasted finishes, the series is here represented by the sandblasted variation: defined by a rich, ruby stain and jet-black vulcanite stem. Unlike many of Rattray's pipes, which are drilled to accommodate a 9mm filter, pieces within The Fair Maid series offer standard drilling to allow for the line's more petite shaping.-John McElheny
