Ropp: Algerian Superior Bulldog
Product Number: 002-598-7477
The Bulldog is a classic, sturdy shape, considered masculine by many, perhaps because of its rigid, geometric form enforced by the diamond shank and angles of the bowl above and below the ridgeline. This Ropp Bulldog, has a bowl that lifts a bit higher than the traditional form, with a slightly more slender bowl. Crisp and sharp ridgelines define the shank and travel into the stem to maintain the geometry, while cheeking at the transition informs the bowl shape beautifully.
Like the Vintage line, Ropp's Algerian Superior series boasts stummels that were found at the Chapuis-Comoy factory. Turned decades ago but never finished, they showcase old-school shaping and a traditional, chestnut stain fitted to an ebonite stem for a classic appeal. Unlike Ropp's Vintage pipes, Algerian Superior pieces are presented only in a smooth finish, having been sourced from select-quality Algerian briar that's free of fills, similar to the Vintage Superior series, which pairs smooth-finished, fill-free stummels to horn stems.- Chuck Stanion
