Ropp: Algerian Superior Paneled Bulldog Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-598-12196
In keeping with the old-school aesthetic showcased throughout Ropp's portfolio, this paneled Bulldog pairs slender, streamlined style with a bulb-like bowl. The elongated stem and diamond shank accentuate the profile's sleekness, drawing attention to the bowl up front. Though the bowl is rather petite, it stands out thanks to its defining panels — unlike other Bulldog renditions whose bowls are wrapped by a beadline or ridgeline, this Ropp piece makes use of oval facets around the bowl's waist, combining with the shank for a geometric, architectural appeal.
Like the Vintage line, Ropp's Algerian Superior series boasts stummels that were found at the Chapuis-Comoy factory. Turned decades ago but never finished, they showcase old-school shaping and a traditional, chestnut stain fitted to an ebonite stem for a classic appeal. Unlike Ropp's Vintage pipes, Algerian Superior pieces are presented only in a smooth finish, having been sourced from select-quality Algerian briar that's free of fills, similar to the Vintage Superior series, which pairs smooth-finished, fill-free stummels to horn stems.-Truett Smith
