S. Bang: Smooth Cobra (UN) (1831)
Product Number: 002-816-0003
This Cobra shape from Ulf Noltensmeier of S. Bang is nothing short of exquisite, calling to mind the archetypal Nordh shape while exuding the pronounced, comforting muscularity which has come to epitomize S. Bang's body of work. It's markedly fluid from bit to rim, even with the added negative space implied by the saddle stem, and despite its gracefully curved underside, it still maintains a well-defined, stable center of gravity. As for the grain, it's the sort that would likely have made Bo himself blush, as this particular block was not only 'read' with an air of carefulness akin to an Egyptologist on a pyramid wall, said block was also undeniably well-deserving of the beautiful contrast stain it received. With birdseye filling the entirety of the underside and licks of ultra-tight, feathery flame lining each flank, it's a piece that should end up front and center amongst your collection.- Daniel Bumgardner
