Scott Thile: Sandblasted Bent Dublin with Bamboo (FH) (267) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-615-0006
Righteous stain and grain, my favorite ferrule (bamboo, natch!), and manifesting a markedly modernist momentum, I was about to take a coffee break and let this Dublin write its own description, but something kept tugging at the frontal lobe of my cerebrum (yes, I still have one, thank you). There's an element here, a small but important detail afoot, something special about the spur (that I couldn't immediately put my finger on) that elevates this Scott Thile bent Dublin beyond your garden variety speeder.
(Light-bulb appears over Bear's head) The rearward contour of the spur is a continuation of the arc initiated by the front terminus of the bamboo! While the result (now) seems both fall-off-the-log obvious and intuitive, the idea of carving a prominence in order to complete the final arc of a bamboo ferrule is downright inspired. To modify a famous Mies van der Rohe quote, "Cool is in the details", and this Thile bent Dublin is very cool.
