Scott Thile: Smooth Bent Bulldog (OP2) (548) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-615-0110

Scott Thile got his start in pipe making like many before him, with a DIY pipe kit. Thile's skills began to grow through trial and error, visiting pipe makers forums, and inspiration from other American pipe makers. Thile's shapes tend to err towards the traditional, as he expertly crafts classics like Bulldogs and Dublins, which make wonderful canvases for his warm smooth finishes and detailed sandblasts. Scott Thile once described his pipe making aesthetic as such, "the Danish neoclassics as interpreted by the North American greats." It's safe to say he can now count himself among those greats.

This bent Bulldog by Scott Thile features a pert bowl, its walls supplely flaring from a soft heel to a sharp, high-set waistline adorned with two crisp beadlines. From there, the walls take a conical taper to the trim rim, showcasing a mesmerizing whorls of birdseye in the process. Out back, the diamond shank meets the bowl at a well-cheeked transition, a hallmark of Thile's Bulldogs, which accentuates the muscular profile. Furthermore, the shank gently bends upward to the vulcanite stem, which demurely arcs downward to the bit, creating a superbly subtle S-curve that imbues this piece with a dash of forward-urging momentum. Additionally, the stummel is dressed in a classic chestnut stain, higlighting stellar streaks of flame grain that wrap around the lower bowl.
