Sergey Ailarov: Smooth Bent Brandy

Product Number: 002-789-0008

A modern approach to the bent Brandy, this rendition from Sergey Ailarov definitely exhibits some Danish elements in its overall composition. For example, the teardrop shank, whose line extends all the way into the full, rounded waist of the bowl, bringing to mind the styling of the late Master Lars Ivarsson. There's also a certain muscularity in profile that doesn't sacrifice the graceful fluidity of the shape, which is the type of execution of shaping I personally associate with the best Danish pipes. Married with the superlative shaping is gorgeous flame grain surrounding the bowl, with of a sea of whirling birdseye along the length of the bottom flank, altogether making absolutely gorgeous work from the Russian carver. I don't anticipate this one being available for long.
