Sergey Ailarov: Sandblasted Bent Brandy
Product Number: 002-789-0009
Given Ailarov's appreciation for the natural beauty of briar, it's not surprising that he takes a similarly-minded approach to his accents. Rather than adorning a piece with bright sterling silver, Sergey shows a preference for horn, exotic woods, or other such organic materials. In this dark, muscular bent Brandy, for example, we find a domed, horn ferrule which displays a spectrum of smokey hues, working wonderfully to compliment the overall tone or the briar.
Elaborating more on Sergey's shaping with this piece, he has succeeded with creating a continuous silhouette with a deftly executed "S-curve", which begins with the full cheeking and lifted, Danish-style heel at the bowl, then delicately reaches upwards at the transition before finally tapering in an elegant "swan neck" at the stem.
