Sergey Dyomin: Sandblasted Chubby Pot

Product Number: 002-662-0001

While familiar with Sergey Dyomin's work for P.S. Studio, where he was a student of Russian mastercarver Vladimir Grechukhin, I first saw pipes bearing the Dyomin stamp at this year's Chicagoland pipe show. There were about a dozen or so of these pipes spread out on a hotel bedspread, and I was instantly taken with them. Being a fan of short, chubby pipes in general and the compact, muscular designs of Grechukhin in particular, there was a lot here for me to like. From the whimsically stout proportions to the fine sandblast and first rate engineering, I felt sure our customers would share my excitement about the six pieces that we brought back with us.

And so I give you Sergey Dyomin pipe 001: a Sandblasted Chubby Pot. With its plump bowl and rounded shank face, the pipe has rather a pillowy profile. The blast displays some lovely ring grain, but I'm most impressed with the birdseye on the bottom of the pipe (see Image 4). For me, this is a pipe that I simply don't want to put down.
