Sergey Dyomin: Sandblasted Chubby Bent Dublin

Product Number: 002-662-0004

While the broad, clean lines of Vladimir Grechukhin can be seen in Sergey Dyomin's creations, Dyomin, clearly, has ideas all his own when it comes to proportions. His shapes are, frankly, just the chubbiest around. Any more so and I suspect round is all they could be - spheres of briar with stems sticking out. Pushing proportions to such an extreme is a risk though, as it creates unique challenges in creating a shape with visual balance, and, for that matter, amiable ergonomics. Sergey manages to produce both though, here for example dropping the shank low, relative to the bowl, creating room for the thumb around the back of the rim, and allowing a continuous curve along the forward face and underside from leading rim-edge to, and inf act right through, the recessed base of the stem. The result is a remarkably stout shape that's simply, wonderfully well-knit.
