Sergey Dyomin: Sandblasted Paneled Billiard

Product Number: 002-662-0013

This is quite an interesting, and unusual, design from Sergey Dyomin. The majority of his designs are stout, chubby numbers heavily influenced by the work of Russian master Vladimir Grechukhin and Dyomin's own work at the venerable PS Studio firm. Here, however, we find something far sleeker and aerodynamic than you might expect — a unique take on a shape you might find amongst old French briars, to be exact. The bowl does boast a fair bit of substance, and the overall length and proportions remain fairly compact; however, the transition is much more defined and the shank far slimmer than what we'd expect in the Dyomin canon. This trimmer approach actually works to accentuate the visual weight of the bowl, I think, with the crisp lines of the paneled flanks gently cascading down into the angular transition. It's presented here in a warm, subtle contrast and finished in a crisp sandblast, making the most of the particular block's impressive cross-cut pattern. - Andrew Wike
