Sergey Dyomin: Sandblasted Paneled Bulldog
Product Number: 002-662-0023
This batch of briars from Sergey Dyomin features two Bulldog shapes, both of which seem to follow a more architectural and structured approach to design — at least compared to his more typical rounded, plump, and chubby forms. Each features a stout diamond shank with clean, crisp edges paired up to a softer style of quadra-paneling around the bowl. While both briars favor Sergey's muscular proportions and both are quite stturdy overall, the taper up from the beadline on this ruby-sandblasted piece is a bit more defined, and the shank a touch trimmer as well. That extra height, or lack thereof along the shank, helps slim the design in profile — in turn accentuating all those clean, defined lines around the stummel. The rich, smoldering contrast sandblast is excellent as well, leaving a bit of the block's flame grain on display while bringing out acres of ring grain climbing the paneled bowl. Excellent piece.
