Trey Rice: Sandblasted Prince with Silver Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-921-0008
While in college, Trey Rice was introduced to pipes and pipe smoking, becoming instantly enamored with the hobby. Being a poor college student, Rice couldn't afford the artisan pipes that captured his eye, but his background in woodworking enabled him to be able to craft pieces for himself. Since then, Rice has continued to hone his skills, drawing inspiration from other North American carvers and cultivating a style that prioritizes clean line work and functionality above all else.
This Prince is a pitch-perfect rendition of the classic form, offering all of the shape's core features, including a squat, well-rounded bowl and a lithely bent shank-and-stem arrangement. Though well-balanced in hand, visually, this piece sees most of the visual weight anchored at the fore, with the comparatively slender shank and stem acting in a supporting while keeping the shape lightweight and svelte. An inky sandblast dresses the stummel and highlights gorgeous grain across the bowl's flanks, while a silver accent adorns the junction and ties the entire composition together with a dose of flash. An undeniably elegant design, this piece will undoubtedly become a favorite in any collector's rotation.--Davin Hylton
