Tsuge Ikebana: Partially Rusticated Freehand (E)

Product Number: 002-623-3623

"Organic" and "asymmetrical" tend to be so closely associated when it come sot pipe design, and especially pipe design of the Japanese school, that use of the former often communicates (intentionally or otherwise) an assumption of the presence of the latter. Nonetheless, asymmetry is not truly required to produce a highly organic shape and this Ikebana freehand proves that well and thoroughly with its lean yet smoothly swelling flanks and rear face, beautifully curling gesture of bowl, transition, and flared snub shank, and sweep of natural plateau underneath. A fine little number indeed, which shows just how well the Japanese school has combined the seamless forms and lines of the Danish with their own native culture's artistic flare for organic compositions.
