Tsuge Ikebana: Smooth Bent Apple (Kikuchi) (C)

Product Number: 002-623-4456

When Fukuda-san works within a more Western milieu, there is almost always at least a tip of the hat towards his mentor of the late 60s, Sixten Ivarsson. While we have yet to see any deep organic exploration from Asami Kikuchi, so far her Western shaping seems to take a cue from her mentor. Even when moving to a more modernist compact aesthetic, I have yet to see her heavily ramp the thickness of a shank to achieve a sense of proportional play; she achieves the same coolness through simple truncation just after a point of expansion, or by simply making the bowl the dominant feature. Yep, pretty much like she did with this handsome C Grade. This is a ton of beautiful Ikebana for the buck.
