Tsuge Ikebana: Smooth Bent Dublin (Fukuda) (J) (221) (2017) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-623-4539
In contrast to the other bent Dublin in this same Tsuge Ikebana update, this is more of the style that I would expect from the workshop. A Fukuda-designed piece, it maintains much of the visual weight at the fore in the form of a tall Dublin bowl, flared at the plateau-crowned rim, and tapering steadily through a rounded base that comes just below the line of the transition, giving it a hint of Acorn-like sleekness. At the rear, the shank cinches at the transition before flaring near the end, giving the impression of some forward propulsion to the piece as a whole, as well as an elegant balance to the entire form in hand. The entire stummel is dressed in a warm contrast, which has brought out the best of some quality grain — dense licks of flame on all sides, specifically, making this a joy to view from any direction. Stunning work.
