Tsuge Ikebana: Smooth Tomato with Bamboo (Kikuchi) (F) (2018) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-623-4562
My personal favorite in today's selection of Tsuge Ikebana briars, this Tomato from Asami Kikuchi is a stellar display of fetching curves and naturalesque cues, drawing inspiration from the Danish school and the carver's own history as an artist specializing in tactile experiences. Indeed, it boasts a look that hearkens back to a certain shape designed by Nanna Ivarsson for Stanwell to my eye, only rendered with a bit more emphasis on a round sense of inflation at the bowl, making for an interesting showcase of stellar flame and birdseye, along with a comforting feel in hand. Said curve-imbued bowl is paired to three knuckles of bamboo at the shank extension, the eye guided to them by way of a neatly-tucked transition. At the other end of things, Asami's opted for a gently-downturned saddle stem, serving to frame the silhouette marvelously. An awesome piece.
